We got a late start on the trail due to the construction on Highway 2 and the 22.4 mile rocky (scary) road to the trail head. (I love my Jeep!) Lots of cars and trucks at the trail head and we took the last parking spot. It was noon by the time we hit the trail and 84 degrees in bright sunshine, so we took it easy to Spider meadows. There are lots of nice campsites on the way which were unoccupied. Today was the opening day of hunting and we ran into several hunters that had already taken bear and deer. The trail is like a highway, (luxurious compared to the road) and Angel loved wading and drinking in the many streams along the way. The forest walk was lovely throughout and Spider Meadow was a heavenly spot. We ate our lunch and frogged around for an hour before heading out.
This was going to be our Trinity Loop hike of the summer, but due to the hunters and the oncoming bad weather, we are saving this one for next year. There were no bugs…sigh. A perfect time to hike this trail and the hunters have the right-of-way.
This is worth doing, even risking your life and Jeep on that crazy road!
