petrogliph-of-orca-whale1

This was the third year in a row we hiked in to Cape Alava. The boardwalk hike in to the site is easy and pleasant through old growth trees and prarie. We hiked the beach from Cape Alava to South Sandy Point. We discovered a lot of petroglyphs we did not see before and we saw a lot of wildlife. There were deer, chipmunks, eagles, and a black bear! We also saw 3 dead seals and a dead gray whale….sad. There were no starfish this time around that we could find. We hiked north as far as the Flattery rocks. The beaches are beautiful and the weather was nice. It was a marvelous time! We also discovered the best burger in the world is at Smitty’s on Hwy 101 on Discovery Bay….
