What a brilliant day! We drove up the quite good gravel road to Anderson/Watson Lakes Trailhead. We almost made it but for some thick snow on the road about .5 miles before the trailhead. We hiked to the trailhead and went up as far as a large basin area where the snow was too thick to determine the way onward.
Best part was walking the easy roads. The views of Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan were breathtaking and many other peaks could be seen. The road, 1107 turns into a “road to trails” place around a corner and is delightful to walk down for the views of the Baker Lake, Baker River, and the mountains. Also, FR 20 goes on from the trailhead and is closed to cars and makes an excellent hike for another sterling view! All the guide books mention the awful clear cuts, but I did not get disturbed by any of this. A lot of young trees have taken root and the mountain landscape is no longer bald. This is a “Gotta Do” for even novice hikers. Great Views with No real Work! Angel loved the snow!
